Tawa Pulao is well known Indian street food, made up of rice and available mix of veggies.

  • Pressure Cooker

  • 1 cup Basmati Rice a normal version also can be used
  • 1/4 cup Cabbage
  • 1 medium size Onion
  • 1 medium size Capsicum
  • handful Peas
  • 5-6 Beans
  • 2 medium size Tomatoes
  • 1 medium size Potato
  • Coriander
  • 1 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 tbsp Ginger Garlic paste
  • 1 tbsp Cumin / Jeera
  • 1 tbsp Pav Bhaji Masala
  • 1 tbsp Kitchen King Masala
  • 1/2 tbsp Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/4 tbsp Turmeric
  • Salt as per taste
  • 1 tbsp Oil or Ghee
  • 3 tbsp Butter
  • Water to boil rice


  • Wash and soak rice for 20 mins
  • After 20 mins, add it in pressure cooker along with salt, ghee and some water
  • Boil it till the point it gets 90% cooked and immediately drain the water and let it cool completely
  • Meanwhile, In a kadayi, heat 3 tbsp butter and let it melt
  • Add sliced onions and ginger garlic paste. saute it well till raw smell of ginger garlic paste goes away and onions turn into light golden shade
  • Now, add half potion of chopped tomatoes and saute it till tomatoes becomes mushy
  • Keep the flame on medium flame and add these powder spices and mix it well - Turmeric powder, Kitchen king Masala, Pav Bhaji Masala, Kashmiri Chilli Powder, Salt (Remember, a small amount of salt was added while boiling rice as well)
  • After around 4-5 mins, you can observe oil released at the side of the kadhayi
  • Now, it is time to add remaining vegetables - capsicum, peas, beans and salt as per the taste
  • Stir-fry for 3 minutes or until vegetables are cooked slightly
  • Add remaining half portion of chopped tomatoes and boiled and cubed potato and mix it
  • Now add in cooked and drained rice, lemon juice. Mix it gently so that rice does not break
  • Keep the flame on low and let it get mixed for 2 mins and add coriander for garnishing


  • While preparing Pulao, make sure your rice is completely cool down else the rice turns mushy and you may feel like having Khichdi instead of having Pulao
  • You can alternatively use leftover rice to hasten the process. Also, feel free to add a variety of vegetables to make it more nutritious
  • Lastly, i have added chilli powder for the extra spice, you can skip it or you can add it according to you spice preference. You can add kitchen king masala if you like bit of punjabi taste or it is completely optional. Note that pav bhaji masala has sufficient spice heat in it
